James Smith Lanier passed on to his descendants a
company with unlimited potential. He also bequeathed the important principles of
faith and vision necessary for successful growth. Campbell
Brown Lanier, Sr., Campbell Brown Lanier, Jr., and Campbell
Brown Lanier, III each contributed ~ and continue to contribute ~ to ITC's
legacy of success.
The initial concept for the company was born in 1896 when an 18-year old James Smith Lanier visited a telephone display at the Cotton Exposition at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. He was inspired with an immediate vision of the important applications of this new technology.
Lanier placed an order for telephone equipment and formed a new company named The West Point Telephone and Electric Company, which opened for business with 36 subscribers in March, 1896. The West Point Telephone Company became Interstate Telephone Company (ITC) as industry expansion occurred and the range of customers and services grew.
Three generations of family owner-operators continue to be attracted to evolving innovations in the information-technology arena, expanding into financial markets and internet industries over time.
